Legendary manga author Naoki Urasawa has just started a new Youtube channel.
On Thursday, the same day as the release of the fifth volume of his current series Asadora, Naoki Urasawa released his first-ever YouTube video on his official "Urasawa Channel." In the video, titled "Manga Artist Urasawa Naoki is Starting YouTube," Urasawa sketches the characters and logo that comprise his new channel's banner in a matter of minutes. During the video, Urasawa also explains the kind of content he plans to create on his channel, including interviews with other manga artists, technique demonstrations for aspiring manga artists and live-drawing sessions and tutorials.
Naoki Urasawa's current manga Asadora is part historical fiction, part futuristic science fiction and follows a young girl named Asa from post-war era Japan to the present day. Although there have only been five volumes of the manga released so far, Asadora has already been met with critical praise.
Urasawa has written manga professionally since the 1980s, and during that time, he has become one of the most recognized and respected manga authors of all time, with art exhibitions and conventions in Japan dedicated to his work. His most famous manga, the psychological thriller Monster, has won a number of awards, including the prestigious Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and was adapted into a critically acclaimed anime in 2004 by studio Madhouse. The other manga in his catalog, including Astro Boy retelling Pluto, sports manga Yawara!, the silly Mujirushi: The Sign of Dreams and thriller 20th Century Boys, have also received critical praise, and many of them are often regarded as some of the best manga of all time.
