Following a year of breakout and original series, Crunchyroll and Viz Media have announced plans to bring five of its popular titles to home video, including Jujutsu Kaisen and Tower of God.
The announcement was detailed on Anime News Network, where it was revealed which five series had been selected for home video release. In addition to the above mentioned shows, the other anime selected are In/Spectre, The God of High School and Burn the Witch, the most recent series from Bleach creator Tite Kubo. Each series is scheduled for home video release in the U.S. and Canada, containing both the English-dubbed and English-subtitled versions of the anime.
Jujutsu Kaisen is the most recent anime on the list and was animated by MAPPA, the studio behind The God of High School. Similarly heavy in action, the series follows its young protagonist as he becomes entangled in the ongoing conflict between sorcerers and curses due to his own possession by a powerful ancient being. Adapted from the popular Shonen Jump manga, the season finale aired Mar. 27.
Crunchyroll provides the largest collection of online anime to over 100 million users, in addition to its four million subscribers. Shows such as Tower of God fall into the category of Crunchyroll originals, as the service was involved in the development of the series. The show was a Crunchyroll and WEBTOON production of a South Korean manhwa, presenting the dark-fantasy journey of its protagonists as he attempts to climb the many floors of The Tower in search of his lost friend.
Similarly, The God of High School was another adaptation of a manhwa. The series displays the action-packed events of a tournament that pits the best martial arts from across the world in the hopes of claiming the title of "The God of High School." As for In/Spectre, it blends romance, the supernatural and mystery genres into one as the Goddess of Wisdom and the boy she loves assist in various strange occurrences.
Kubo's Burn the Witch, a series set in the same universe as Bleach, was released as a film that Crunchyroll divided into three episodes. The show is set in a place known as Reverse London, in which people are able to see the secret supernatural inhabitants of the city, including the likes of dragons. The series follows the people of Reverse London, with its protagonists serving as protectors and handlers of the setting's fantastical beings.
The announcement concluded by stating further details would be provided by both companies at a later date.
