At Jump Festa '21 it was revealed that an anime adaptation of Platinum End is in the works. The manga is written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the same duo that created Death Note. Long-time readers of Platinum End will no doubt be excited about the adaptation, but non-readers, particularly fans of Death Note, should rejoice as well, as Platinum End hits many of the same notes that make Death Note stand out as a classic.
An Interesting Premise
Excellent World Building
Platinum End's competition is filled with just as many conflicts, alliances and double-crossings as Death Note, making the series akin to experiencing a chess match, just between demi-Gods. The appeal of Death Note's legendary game of cat-and-mouse between Light and L is present in spades in Platinum End.
This level of conflict brought on by the series' premise allows Platinum End to introduce a colorful cast of characters, and it is without question that those participating in Platinum End's conflicts are just as interesting and dynamically written as Death Note's cast. This wide array of characters and the degree of agency they are granted enhance Platinum End's already appealing premise, conflicts and worldbuilding.
If it's anything near the level of the manga, Platinum End's anime adaptation will be a fun experience for anime fans in 2021. Those who enjoyed Death Note will definitely appreciate what Platinum End brings to the table, and you can catch up on the manga now as you wait for the anime's premiere.
