The official manga adaptation of the hit Netflix anime series Great Pretender is on the way to North America from Seven Seas Entertainment.
"Seven Seas Entertainment is thrilled to announce the license acquisition of Great Pretender by Ryouta Furusawa, Hiro Kaburagi, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and Daichi Marui -- the manga adaptation of the hit Netflix anime, featuring a team of international con artists trying to make it big in America," Seven Seas' official release reads. The manga series began in Japan this past June, and is slated to debut physically and digitally in North America in July of 2021, with volumes retailing for $12.99 USD/$16.99 CAN.
Per the official synopsis,
Edamura Makoto may be young, but he's already one of Japan's best conmen. However, he meets his match when he gets tangled up with Laurent Thierry, a French con artist with big plans. Soon, Makoto is in LA, working (begrudgingly) with Laurent to swindle a big-time movie producer/drug dealer. Laurent’s plan is a good one, but can Makoto trust him?
A crime comedy anime produced by Wit Studio, Great Pretender's episodes are split up into "cases," rather than traditional seasons. The first case dropped on Netflix Japan back on June 2 of this year. The second case then arrived on June 9, followed by the third on June 16 and the fourth on Sept. 21. Following their release on Netflix Japan, each respective case would then premiere on Fuji TV's +Ultra block, where episodes would be aired on a weekly basis. The first three cases of Great Pretender were released on Netflix worldwide this past August, with the fourth arriving in November. To date, a total of 23 episodes are available to stream.
Great Pretender is streaming now on Netflix. The manga adaptation arrives in North America in July 2021.
