Ever since Netflix announced this year the new season of The Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no taizai), titled Dragon's Judgment, fans have been waiting in anticipation for the season to air. Previously, Season 4 was set to release in October, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, production was delayed, and it was pushed back until 2021.
The Seven Deadly Sins has quickly risen in popularity among anime fans since being added to Netflix and is now one of the world's most searched for anime, according to recent data. Since the release of the Dragon's Judgement teaser trailer, and new key visuals for the upcoming season, excitement has only been mounting even higher.
Fans expect many big revelations to come out of this explosive conclusion to this action-packed story arc. Let's round up all of the important details surrounding the release of The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgement.
Release Date
As The Seven Deadly Sins manga concluded in 2020, many fans are beginning to wonder how the anime is going to play out. The anime has been on Netflix since 2015, becoming one of the first anime series to be licensed by the platform. Dragon's Judgment is expected to premiere in Japan on January 6; however, Netflix has yet to announce when it will stream on its platform.
When the trailer was released, it was also announced that Susumu Nishizawa would be returning as the director, still backed by Studio Deen. Many will be pleased that the show will keep its original animation producer, character designer and sound director; others will hope the studio won't have to outsource its work to a less than stellar company again.
Plot
Since the first season of the anime, the story has revolved around Meliodas trying to break the reincarnation cycle that he and Elizabeth have been trapped in for 3,000 years.
In the Season 3 finale of The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods, many fans were left reeling from the events that unfolded. The final episode showed Estarossa confessing his love for Elizabeth after he lost control from consuming three of the Ten Commandments. This cliffhanger will no doubt set the stage for the final season of The Seven Deadly Sins.
Not much was revealed in the first teaser trailer released by Netflix. The only thing that viewers could only discern was that Meliodas and Elizabeth's 3,000-year reincarnation curse may finally be coming to an end. Fans also noted a grief-stricken Meliodas holding a blood-soaked Elizabeth, leading to much speculation about the circumstances that lead to this event. This may mean Season 4's plot could involve mistrust and uncertainty as the characters begin to wonder who amongst them is truly a friend and who is an enemy.
It is also expected that the Holy War arc will continue in Season 4 and that Meliodis will face off against the demon clans' Ten Commandments. There are also theories surrounding the last season that claim Dragon's Judgment will feature the Seven Knights first committing the seven sins.
Based on the trailers and the current news circulating, Elizabeth and Meliodas' relationship will become much more intricate and complex in the final season. However, not much is yet known about Season 4's actual plot, except for the fact that the manga's last 80 chapters will likely be covered in it.
News To Know
In November, a new commercial was released for The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgement. In this commercial, the opening and closing theme songs were revealed. The opening song is titled "Hikari Are" (Let There Be Light) and is sung by Akihito Okano, the lead vocalist of the band Porno Graffitti. The closing theme song, "Time," is a collaboration between Hiroyuki Sawano and ReoNa. These songs have piqued the interest of fans worldwide as the release of the anime is fast approaching.
Interestingly with the conclusion of The Seven Deadly Sins manga this year, fans don't need to be too distraught about it all coming to an end anytime soon -- there is light at the end of the tunnel. As well as Season 4 of the anime, the franchise is set to release a manga sequel titled The Seven Deadly Sins: The Four Knights Of The Apocolypse in 2021. This manga is said to potentially revolve around Tristan, who is Meliodas and Elizabeth's son.
