WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Blood of Zeus Season 1, currently streaming on Netflix.
In Netflix's Blood of Zeus, Heron tries hard not to hate his father Zeus for abandoning him and his mother, Electra -- especially after Hera's manipulation of Seraphim, his half-brother, starts having deadly consequences. Electra soon dies at Seraphim's hands, all as Hera plots to bring the Giants in to raze Olympus and possibly, the planet.
But as all these threads intersect, from the brotherly war at hand to the lovers' spat between Zeus and Hera to the Giants having sinister intentions of their own, Season 1 creates major plot holes in its eight episodes.
Killing a God Is Unclear
The series never makes it known how a god can be killed, suggesting only a Giant or Titan can do so. Yet, Hera tries to stab Zeus in the neck, only for the king to heal himself. When he blows himself up later to save her from the leader of the Giants, this seems to do the trick, but again, it's inconsistent. We also see Seraphim (who's powered by a Giant's carcass) cutting off Hera's hand when he betrays her using Hades' bident, but there's no clarification if a god's weapon can kill or harm another god, which would contradict Zeus living after Hera stabbed him.
Additionally, when Ares attacks Zeus' devoted son, Apollo, he just throws his incapacitated body into the sea. It makes no sense as Apollo could easily recover or, in this case, allow Poseidon to sense his family and bring Apollo back to Zeus. We have no clue why Ares didn't carve him up using his own weapons or imprison him for a Giant to eat rather than sending Apollo back to an uncle, making it appears to be a mere plot convenience.
Poseidon Can't See His Underwater Tombs
In the first battle with the Giants, after Zeus' pantheon of gods trapped their souls, the cauldron they were stored in was kept in an underwater lair and protected by a giant robot called Talos. Seraphim would attack him and steal the cauldron, allowing Hera to bring the Giants back to life. However, Poseidon should have been caring for the cauldron and also, the carcasses of the Giants that were buried deep in the ocean bed.
For some reason, the corpses are left unguarded and Poseidon doesn't sense any of the theft that's happening or what Hera's up to. He only sees their resurrection when Hera sends out a call-to-arms for her gods to join her, leaving us wondering how Poseidon, the supposed god of the seas, doesn't know all this is happening under his nose.
Seraphim Shouldn't Be Able to Use His Main Weapons
Seraphim is using the bident, which is a spear that belongs to Hades. He calls it back and forth like Thor's hammer, yet he doesn't have the blood of a god in him. Heron does have Zeus' blood but Seraphim is a human with the dark energy of the Giant, though that doesn't mean he should be able to command the spear. Zeus can control it yet he doesn't pluck it from Seraphim's hands when the villain kills Electra or uses it against Zeus' alliance. It's also odd that Hades just leaves his main weapon on Earth, not caring who wields it.
In addition, Zeus crafted an adamantine sword that could cut through anything in the world, yet when Heron tosses it aside the king never bothers to hunt it down. Zeus leaves it for Seraphim to take, which allows the tyrant to kill Talos and get the cauldron. It's awfully convenient that Zeus forgets about the sword, as well as Heron, making it seem like it's done just to allow Seraphim to help raise the Giants. Of course, the series forgets about it in the finale when it becomes lodged in a dying Talos' eye in the underwater tomb...
Hermes Forgets About Heron's Demigod Status
Hermes and Apollo repeatedly try to bond with Heron as they know Zeus has brought him in for demigod training. He's a half-mortal bastard like them and they can sense he has similar power, which is why the Thunderer wants Heron in their ranks. Yet, when Heron wants to steal the cauldron from Hera and Seraphim as the Giants attack, Hermes makes a stupid comment.
He asks if they're making the right move sending a "mortal" on the theft. He already acknowledged Heron isn't a mere mortal and has the potential to be Zeus' successor so this is a conflict that has no logic or foundation at all, as it was previously addressed.
Starring Jason O'Mara, Mamie Gummer, Chris Diamantopoulos, Derek Phillips and Jessica Henwick, Blood of Zeus Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
