The immensely successful manga and anime series Attack on Titan is soon set for a very vibrant revisiting of its old material. Whilst fans have already experienced the anime adaptation in color, the unique art style of Hajime Isayama's manga has primarily been conveyed in monochrome. However, whilst the story is characteristically dark, fans will soon be able to re-experience the manga in full color due to an upcoming re-release.
The news suggests that the entirety of the manga will soon be available to fans in full-color serialization. It has yet to be specified when exactly this re-release can be expected to arrive, as no date has yet been declared. As of right now, it has only been confirmed that the printing will be overseen by Bessatsu Shonen Magazine.
Despite the uncertainty of a release date, the announcement itself is timely due to the state of the anime and manga. Isayama has confirmed that the manga is very much in its final stages, with the climactic events already unfolding in the latest chapters. Additionally, the anime is preparing for its last outing as the final season debuts in December.
The world of Attack on Titan has enthralled fans since its first manga chapter was published in September 2009. It garnered even further popularity following the anime's first episode which aired April 7, 2013. Isayama managed to capture the imaginations of his readers by presenting them with a horrifying world of monstrosities in which humanity is struggling to survive. Overrun by giant humanoids known as Titans, humanity is pushed back to the state of prey, hiding behind great stone walls. When the Titans breach the walls, consuming many of its citizens, the traumatic events spur the series protagonist, Eren Yeager, into action.
Isayama has since developed this simple post-apocalyptic premise into a narrative of social and political intrigue. Blurring the lines between moral and egregious, it remains to be seen how the story will end, with the states of all its characters in a current state of flux. Eren has become almost unrecognizable from his original self, and yet it is through this shift in character that he has begun to bring about the greatest changes the series has seen to date.
