As DanMachi reaches the midway point of the season, the various plots surrounding the Xenos are slowly coming together, mounting to what will likely be a tense, action-packed second half. The Ikelos Familia continues on as the season’s main antagonist, as their actions get more reprehensible with each episode.
In Episode 5, Wiene’s group is confronted by Dix and the rest of the Ikelos Familia following the ambush on the 24th floor. Some of the Xenos manages to fight back, but are overwhelmed by the Ikelos Familia members. Two Xenos, Cliff and Four, are killed in action and Ranye is greatly wounded in the process. Rather than be killed or captured Ranye takes her own life, and Wiene alongside the rest of the survivors is imprisoned by the Ikelos Familia.
The other Xenos soon learn of the ambush and hold a meeting to determine their plan of action. Gros, a Gargoyle Xenos, rallies the rest of the group and launches a counterattack on the adventurers – who they blame for the incident in the 24th dungeon. Lyd, Ray and the remaining Xenos stay behind as Lyd plans to mitigate the damage done by the rampaging Xenos.
Back in Orario, Bell runs into Ais and asks her about the necessity of killing monsters. She responds that she would do so without hesitation if it meant saving someone in danger, but Bell is not as quick to answer. The two are then interrupted by a citywide alarm. News breaks of monsters wielding weapons attacking and overrunning a human settlement on the 18th floor. While the entirety of Orario prepares for battle, the Guild stops all adventurers from entering the dungeon. The Hestia Familia members learn of the attack soon after, with Bell rushing to the guild to find out more.
Ouranos and Fels realize that their communications with the Xenos have been cut, and Ouranos decides to send the Ganesha Familia – seeing as Ganesha is the only other deity who knows about the Xenos – into the dungeon to address the situation. Upon Ouranos’ request, Bell joins the Ganesha Familia in their mission, with Ouranos resolving to see where Bell truly stands in the situation concerning the Xenos.
The Xenos’ revolt brings them to center stage in the worst possible way. With Bell and the rest of Orario focused on what’s happening on the 18th floor, Wiene’s disappearance will continue to go unnoticed by those closest to her – at least for the time being. Whatever happens between Bell, the Ganesha Familia and the revolting Xenos will likely affect how the rest of this season plays out. Dix and the rest of the Ikelos Familia are primed to watch things play out on the sidelines, though a confrontation with Bell is inevitable going forward.
