The plot of Dragon Ball: Xenoverse involves the player character, a time-hopping hero known as Ace the Time-Patroller, working with Future Trunks and Supreme Kai of Time, Chronoa, to keep the mysterious Time-Breakers from altering the history of the Dragon Ball universe.
But in the process, a number of possible timelines are glimpsed where the heroes failed and fell in battle -- and the world quickly followed suit. Here are all the darkest possible timelines introduced in Dragon Ball: Xenoverse.
The Saiyan Saga: The Saiyans Win
The Time-Breakers try to make two changes to the Saiyan Saga at the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, starting with Radditz's defeat. In their tweaked timeline, Radditz was able to break free of Goku's hold, leaving his brother to be the only one killed by Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon. Piccolo was promptly wiped out too before the Time-Patroller arrived in the timeline. The Time-Breakers then traveled to the arrival of the Saiyans and their artificially-grown soldiers, the Saibamen. In canon, only Yamcha was killed defeating them, leaving the rest of the heroes to fight against Nappa.
But the interference of Time-Breakers Towa and Mira led to the Saibamen being far more powerful than they were in canon. In this new series of events, the cloned soldiers were more than strong enough to wipe out the Z-Warriors. Goku arrived at the battlefield to find his allies all dead -- and a full-power Nappa and Vegeta waiting for him. Never growing disgusted with Nappa for losing to Goku alone, Vegeta never killed his partner. Together, the pair are too much for him, especially when they reach their Great Ape forms. The timeline is restored when the Time-Patroller helps bring down the empowered Saibamen -- but the hero is forced to do nothing else to save the heroes fated to die.
The Freiza Saga: Captain Ginyu & Freiza Win
The first time Vegeta willingly works with the heroes is when the Ginyu Force arrive on Planet Namek to assist Frieza in collecting the Dragon Balls. In the canon-timeline, Ginyu departed from the initial battle to bring the Dragon Balls to Frieza. This meant he wasn't there when Guldo, Recoome and Burter are killed -- or when Goku arrived on the planet. But, when the Time-Breakers arrive in the period, they keep Ginyu in the fight instead of letting him leave. Witnessing Vegeta's increased potential, Ginyu changes bodies with the Saiyan Prince and successfully kills him while he's trapped in Ginyu's body. Krillin and Gohan are quickly wiped out by the full Ginyu Force, who together prove strong enough to contend with Goku when he arrives.
After a tense battle, Ginyu switches bodies again -- trapping Goku in Vegeta's wounded body while Ginyu uses Goku's Kameheama to kill the hero. Even if the Ginyu Force is held at bay with the Time-Patroller, another timeline is created where Frieza doesn't waste time-fighting Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin. Instead, Frieza just skips straight to his Final Form. He kills Vegeta and Krillin, and Gohan only survives thanks to Goku's intervention. But because the heroes didn't stall Frieza long enough for Goku to heal from his battle with the Ginyu Force, he comes into the battle at a serious disadvantage.
The Cell Saga: Perfect Cell Wins
The Cell Saga features only one major change -- but it's surprising and impactful enough to shift the entire future of the Dragon Ball canon. After being defeated by Perfect Cell with ease, the Hercule of this potential timeline is consumed with jealous rage as Goku climbs into the ring. Empowered by the Time-Breakers, Hercule attacks Goku, surprisingly keeping the Super Saiyan at bay. Meanwhile, Perfect Cell decides to entertain himself by creating the Cell Jrs. early -- which quickly wipe out the rest of the Z-Warriors, save for Gohan. Gohan does his best against Perfect Cell, but without the full motivation of Android 16's demise, he lacks the conviction to reach Super Saiyan 2.
A beaten and wounded Goku can only watch as Perfect Cell decides that it's no great loss if Gohan doesn't show his full potential, and instead opens up a massive Kamehameha blast on the young man. Assisted by two Cell Jrs. in a dark inverse of the classic Goku/Gohan/Goten Kamehameha blast, Perfect Cell overwhelms Gohan and destroys him with the massive attack. Luckily, the Time-Patroller arrives to help stall Hercule long enough for the chain of events to play out as they should -- even remaining behind long enough to help ensure the Z-Warriors aren't killed by the Cell Jrs. being released slightly early.
