WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2, Episode 3, "Visitor Arc III," streaming now on Funimation.
The hunt for the murderous vampires is heating up fast as multiple factions work separately to find them, each with their own goals and motivations. Some want to learn more about them while others merely want them dead. Erika and Mikihiko dive straight into combat, Mayumi and Katsuto request Tatsuya's help with their investigation, while Tatsuya himself seeks out the two most knowledgeable people he knows and Angie Sirius uses her USNA Army team to pursue the Vampires -- only to be stunned by other developments along the way.
Tatsuya's general lack of knowledge about supernatural magical life forms has seen him take a more measured approach since learning of the Vampires' appearance in Japan. He visits his ninjutsu and shinobi magic instructor Kokonoe Yakumo to discuss the otherworldly "parasites," their possible origins and how they can infiltrate the minds of humans and magicians. Later, after aiding Erika in battle, Tatsuya contacts his Aunt Maya -- leader of the widely feared Yotsuba family -- to learn how to combat the mysterious and powerful magic used by Angie Sirius.
However, not all of Tatsuya's friends are so patient. After Leo's attack and subsequent hospitalization, Erika and Mikihiko immediately use the latter's Spirit Magic to track the nearest Vampire, only to find him already doing battle against Angie Sirius. Sirius and her team had successfully killed a Vampire already and were in pursuit of his partner. Neither Erika nor Mikihiko know her true identity -- the blonde US transfer student Lina -- yet rather than stop and assess the situation, Erika's impulsive nature gets the better of her. She jumps straight into the fray and attacks Sirius with everything she has while Mikihiko confronts the Vampire.
Mikihiko is unable to break down the Vampire's defensive barriers but takes no serious harm, while Erika's magical ability and swordsmanship give Angie Sirius an impressive battle. But when Tatsuya shows up to aid his friends, the Vampire uses the confusion to escape while Sirius, after having a powerful spell blocked, uses a mysterious ability to vanish from the scene and reassess her team's situation.
This is the main issue with so many people working to combat the Vampires on their own. Not only do they know precious little about the Vampires and the parasites controlling them, but their various motivations constantly lead to conflict. Erika's desire for revenge on Leo's behalf drew her into a needless battle, Lina/Sirius and her team need to find out why the Vampires -- USNA Army deserters whose bodies were infiltrated by the parasites -- have come to Japan and Tatsuya's more measured approach sees him gathering intel on his own while also aiding Mayumi and Katsuto's investigation. The natural instinct is to think they should all be working together against the Vampires, but it's not that simple. Lina's original mission in Japan was to find the magician (Tatsuya) who used Material Burst during the Yokohama battles in Season 1. Unfortunately for Lina, her troubles as Angie Sirius are only beginning.
Intent on learning how to counter Sirius's mysterious magic, Tatsuya seeks the advice of Maya Yotsuba, head of the family and one of the best-connected magicians on the planet. Maya once studied under the revered Kudou family -- who are also Lina's older relatives -- and has some knowledge about how their family's trademark spell Parade works. Parade essentially allows Lina/Sirius to manipulate her own outward appearance while also blocking Interference Magic, which is why Tatsuya's Mist Dispersion spell missed its target.
Though Tatsuya and the rest of the gang have all grown friendly with Lina in school, her primary reason for coming to Japan is to accomplish her missions as USNA Commander Angie Sirius. Her initial mission was already leading her toward conflict with Tatsuya, but now armed with different reasons to find the Vampires, the two are fast becoming outright foes. And Lina doesn't yet realize that Tatsuya is the very magician she's looking for.
When Tatsuya later tracks down Sirius fighting a Vampire, he arrives on the scene and immediately takes out the latter with a single spell. However, instead of any sort of hesitation or thanks, Sirius and Tatsuya immediately fire their weapons at each other. Sirius's spell is broken down before reaching its target, while Tatsuya's spell overrides her Parade barrier, undoing her appearance and revealing once and for all that Lina is Angie Sirius. With such top-secret information now uncovered, it poses a massive problem for Lina and the USNA. She will have to do everything possible to protect her secret from spreading further -- not to mention Sirius's reputation as one of the Thirteen Strategic-Class magicians. The two seem destined to be adversaries, but far are they willing to go to protect their nations' most precious magical secrets?
