Netflix Portugal's official Twitter account released a trailer for a CG-animated project for the Resident Evil franchise entitled, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, announcing a 2021 release date.
However, no other Netflix accounts have reposted this trailer, so it's unclear whether or not this release date is a global one or specific to Portugal. Netflix has not commented on this released footage at this time so it's also unclear if this announcement came ahead of schedule.
The trailer reunites Resident Evil 2 protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, tossing them into the world of animated storytelling once again. Based on the trailer, its release will come out within the same timeframe that the series' latest video game, Resident Evil: Village, is set to debut on PC and next-generation consoles.
While no further information is currently available on Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, the live-action reboot series is well underway and will be distributed by Sony Pictures through their Screen Gems banner. The series is currently being written by Tony Giglio and directed by Johannes Roberts. Netflix's Resident Evil series will focus on twins Jade and Billie Wesker, two characters who are not in the video games and are likely the children of Albert Wesker.
