Cody Chase is a Producer and DJ who continues to make waves across Electronic
Music, blending his unique four-deck mixing style with a knack for curating engaging
soundscapes. Coming as a key asset of his artistry lies his radio show, The Chase: a
weekly journey through the finest in Techno and Electronic Music, the show continues
to bring episodes that highlight work from his own catalogue, alongside his current
favourite tracks on the scene, ensuring each mix gives way to fresh sonic experiences
for its fans.
As Cody reflects on the show’s evolution, direction, and connection to his audience, he
offers an inside look at how The Chase has become a dynamic platform for
experimentation and creativity, showcasing both his core sound and his willingness to
explore new musical territories.
Hi Cody Chase, how’s it going?
It’s going great! Life’s been a whirlwind with my baby girl due in January and all the
exciting momentum in my music career. Balancing family with music is challenging, but
incredibly rewarding. Every day brings new opportunities and adventures, and I’m just
trying to savor it all while keeping the creative energy flowing.
Looking at where your radio show, The Chase, stands today, how do you feel
about its evolution and the direction it’s heading?
I’m thrilled with how The Chase has evolved. It’s become a platform not just to
showcase my music but also to connect with a global audience and introduce them to
some of the most innovative tracks in electronic music. It’s also a platform to showcase
new music and artists I feel are worthy of being shared and supported in ways that I
wasn’t when I was just starting. The direction feels right, and the feedback has been
amazing. It’s become a dynamic space for creativity and engagement, allowing me to
push boundaries while staying true to my roots. Seeing how the show has grown and
become a trusted source for fans has been deeply fulfilling.
Has there been a shift in the sound and style of the mixes since you first
launched The Chase? What influenced this?
Absolutely, there’s been a shift. When I started, I focused heavily on my signature
techno and tech house sound, but over time, I’ve introduced more bass elements and
melodic touches to keep things fresh and exciting. This evolution has been influenced
by my growth as an artist and the feedback from listeners who enjoy a mix of familiar
vibes and new surprises. I still mix nearly every episode on 4 CDJs, adding a live,
dynamic element that fans really connect with and appreciate. This blend of evolving
sound and live energy has become a key part of what makes The Chase unique.
It’s all about staying true to my foundation while letting the sound evolve naturally with time
and inspiration.
How would you say your audience has responded to the new direction of The
Chase?
The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans appreciate the fresh sounds and
the energy I bring to every episode. It feels like we’re on a shared journey, and their
enthusiasm pushes me to keep experimenting and delivering. Hearing from listeners
about how certain episodes or tracks have resonated with them keeps me motivated to
innovate and create even more meaningful experiences.
How do you curate the tracklist for your radio show? Is it based on personal
preference, audience trends, or a balance of both?
I pick tracks that resonate with me and that I truly love. My audience trusts me to curate
a power hour of music that embodies my sound and energy, and they tune in every
week knowing they’ll get something special. While I stay aware of trends and what’s
moving the scene, I prioritize authenticity—choosing tracks that align with my vision and
deliver the kind of vibe my fans expect. It’s about creating a seamless flow that reflects
my taste while keeping listeners excited and engaged. Ultimately, it’s about sharing a
soundscape I believe in and ensuring it connects with the people who listen. There’s a
certain magic in crafting a set where every track feels like it belongs, and that’s always
my goal.
Do you see your radio show as a reflection of your current sound, or is it a way to
explore other styles and influences?
It’s a bit of both. While the show reflects my current sound and projects, it’s also a
playground to experiment with styles I may not incorporate into my live sets or
productions. It allows me to push boundaries without constraints. I will occasionally play
genre mixes that are way outside what I typically do. For example, I’ve done a full hour
of drum and bass, and I think my next off-genre mix will be on the chiller side, maybe a
deep house mix. The Chase gives me the freedom to step outside my comfort zone and
experiment with new styles while staying connected to my core audience. It’s a creative
outlet that keeps things fresh for both me and the listeners.
What’s your long-term vision for the sound of the radio show? Do you see it
evolving further or solidifying around a specific genre?
I see it as a constantly evolving entity. While I’ll always stay true to my core sound, I
want The Chase to remain dynamic and open to new influences. The goal is to keep it
exciting and unpredictable while maintaining a cohesive vibe. I want to continue
exploring fresh sounds and experimenting while building on the signature energy that
defines the show. It’s about finding the perfect balance between innovation and
consistency, so listeners know they’re getting something exciting but uniquely “me.”
How do you balance playing well-known tracks with introducing more
experimental sounds?
It’s all about pacing and creating a narrative within each episode. I’ll start with a few
crowd-pleasers to set the tone, then gradually introduce more experimental tracks that
challenge listeners and take them on a journey. I want each episode to feel like it’s
telling a story, with familiar moments of comfort and unexpected twists that keep
listeners engaged. It’s this careful balance that makes each mix feel fresh and keeps
people coming back for more.
If you could describe the experience you aim to deliver to your listeners with each
episode of The Chase, what would it be?
I want every episode to feel like an adventure. It’s about building anticipation, delivering
those peak moments of euphoria, and leaving listeners feeling energized and inspired
by the time the episode ends. I want people to feel like they’ve been on a journey, one
that’s exciting, memorable, and uniquely crafted to resonate with them.
Finally, what’s the next milestone you’re hoping to achieve with The Chase?
The next big milestone is to grow The Chase into a live event series. I want to bring the
energy of the show into physical spaces, creating immersive experiences for fans where
the music, visuals, and vibe come together in unforgettable ways. It’s about taking what
listeners love about the show and amplifying it into a live, tangible experience that
connects on an even deeper level.
