Fans of a galaxy far, far away expressed their joy at once again hearing James Earl Jones voice Darth Vader in the latest episode of Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Although it had been confirmed that the Sith Lord would appear in the show, Lucasfilm and Disney had not commented on whether Jones would return to provide Vader's iconic voice. When a fully suited-up Vader finally appeared on screen for the first time in Episode 3, many Star Wars fans took to Twitter to share their excitement at hearing Jones once more.
Jones has been the voice actor for Vader since the character first debuted on-screen in 1977's A New Hope. He has voiced every live-action version of Vader since, including cameos in both 2005's Revenge of the Sith and 2018's The Rise of Skywalker. The actor even lent his voice talents for the character in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels.
The previously unconfirmed appearance of Jones isn't the only surprise that Obi-Wan Kenobi has provided for long-term Star Wars fans. The second episode of the show included actor Temuera Morrison in the role of a down on his luck ex-clone trooper begging for credits on the streets of Daiyu. Morrison first appeared in Star Wars in Attack of the Clones as the bounty hunter Jango Fett, whose DNA was used by the Kaminoans to create the Republic's clone trooper army. Since then, Morrison has provided his voice and likeness for a variety of live-action clone troopers, although Obi-Wan Kenobi was the first time he had worn the armor himself.
According to series director Deborah Chow, fans of the show can expect many more surprises and cameos in future episodes. "I don't think it would be Star Wars if we didn't have some Easter eggs, and we didn't have some cameos. So there definitely are some to come," she said. However, Chow is aware that every cameo has to have a reason and be justified. "We didn't want to just put things in for the sake of it," she added.
The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on May 27. According to data released by Disney, the show was the "most-watched Disney+ Original series premiere globally to date" when measured by the number of hours streamed during the show's opening weekend. It also led to a spike in viewership of other Star Wars titles on the streaming service.
New episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi premiere on Disney+ every Wednesday.
