The following article contains spoilers for Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, streaming now on Disney+.
Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers was quite an emotive trip for fans of the classic animated series. Rather than take the gang on their usual treasure hunts, this movie got meta, with Chip and Dale as actors, trying to stop the Valley Gang from bootlegging fellow characters. Thankfully, by the end of the film, they rescued their beloved Monty and reunited with Gadget and Zipper, finally understanding the value of family. Interestingly, while this case was sealed shut, a few directions were left open for a sequel.
Chip 'n Dale 2 Could Bring In Ellie's Detective Agency
In Rescue Rangers, Ellie was a rookie LAPD officer, who helped the Rescue Rangers take down her corrupt boss, Putty and the Valley Gang. She decided to open up her own detective agency in the final moments, so seeing as she's such a fangirl, she could hire the Rangers and sling mysteries their way. This can lead to cases, from noir-influenced capers to high-octane, explosive ones, akin to the cartoon.
Seeing as Gadget's back in the mix, she can use her inventions to level up the group. After all, she and Zipper may be seeking a rush after being married and having a ton of kids. This could allow Chip and Dale to pretend to be various leads, mixing their acting careers in to have some fun as gumshoes investigating crimes with their peers. Ultimately, Ellie believes in them, so she could help bring all their passions to life while harnessing their intuition and peers, such as Ugly Sonic.
Chin 'n Dale 2 Could Detail Sweet Pete's Revenge
Sweet Pete went to jail for warping characters and selling them on the bootlegging market, so he could easily break out and hunt the Rescue Rangers for revenge. Seth Rogen's Viking dwarf, Bob, can join, as well as Putty, who would have dark connections to the underworld or rogue cops. Chances are, Pete could also have recruited new goons to his cause, as well as other washed-up Disney actors.
This can lead to the sinister movement trying to hit Chip and Dale on set or go after Gadget and Zipper's family, as well as Monty. Pete was warped and turned into a Fat Cat-like war machine, so he can also use the bootlegging tech to create an army of cyborgs and super-soldiers. This would make the series more action and sci-fi-oriented, freshening the property up for a new generation.
Chip 'n Dale 2 Could Focus On Treasure Hunts
The original cartoon had the gang taking influence from the likes of Indiana Jones and The Goonies, thus, they could easily embark on a treasure hunt again. If they stumble upon clues and maps, thinking it'd be a family vacation, this would leave them vulnerable for the mission to turn deadly. This would once more allow Chip and Dale's theatrical shenanigans to rise up, while Gadget flexes her brainpower.
Zipper's flight would be useful, and they'd have to ensure Monty doesn't become a liability due to his hunger cravings -- bringing back iconic elements this first film didn't have. With Hollywood lapping up these kinds of adventures, as seen in The Lost City, and craving new ones, such as the upcoming National Treasure TV show, the Rangers going back to their roots would feel natural and tie into the pulse of the entertainment industry at present.
To see how a sequel is set up, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is streaming now on Disney+.
