Star Wars KOTOR II is Coming to Nintendo Switch

Obsidian Entertainment's 2004 video game, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, is coming to the Nintendo Switch sooner than some might expect.

At Disney's Star Wars Celebration 2022, it was announced the Xbox game will be arriving on the portable console on June 8. Nintendo teased, "Will you follow the light side and save the Galaxy, or succumb to the dark side and bring it all down?"

The Knights of the Old Republic game have each been widely praised since their respective releases, each for a variety of reasons. The original game is still discussed for pulling off one of the Star Wars franchise and video gaming's biggest plot twists, involving the nature between the playable protagonist and Darth Malak. KOTOR II, though largely unfinished upon release, was still praised for its introduction of Kreia, who was named one of video gaming's greatest characters.

Despite calls for a continuation of the Old Republic saga, the Knights of the Old Republic games were presumed a dead project by many, especially after Lucasfilm's acquisition by Disney. However, on top of recent ports to Android iOS and now Nintendo Switch, Knights of the Old Republic also has a remake currently in development. While few details concerning the project are available, it is known that voice actor Jennifer Hale will return as Bastila Shan.

It has also been reported the game may feature combat more akin to God of War rather than the original games, which required players to decide a selection of moves and actions during battle. The upcoming KOTOR remake will include different gameplay modes similar to the slow-down options in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Earlier this year, it was also reported that there are in fact multiple projects relating to the Old Republic era currently in development. It is currently unknown which developer is attached to the new project, just that Bioware -- who developed the original Knights of the Old Republic -- is not involved. It's also important to note that this has not been officially confirmed.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ll – The Sith Lords is currently available for purchase in the AppStore and Google Play for $14.99 USD.
