The Boys teases an intense sit-down with Billy Butcher and Homelander in Season 3.
Posted on The Boys' Twitter is a photo of Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr) grinning at one another from across a small table, all while the leader of The Boys is enjoying a cup of tea. The moment was previously shown towards the end of the series' very first Season 3 teaser trailer, but now the series has used the image to promise that "there will be tea" during the Season 3 premiere.
The Boys is a breakaway from the typical superhero genre, and imagines how heroes may behave if they acted more like entitled, self-obsessed celebrities with corporate backing than the altruistic crimefighters audiences are accustomed to. Homelander is Vought International's most profitable superhero, and possesses nearly identical abilities to DC Comics' Superman. However, unlike the Man of Steel, Homelander commits violent and egregious acts, and has been teased to behave like a "homicidal maniac" in Season 3 by showrunner Eric Kripke.
Homelander is the Supe that Butcher despises the most being that he raped Butcher's wife, Becca, causing her to disappear from Butcher's life for years and was believed to be dead. Becca actually wound up giving birth to Homelander's son in that time, Ryan, and raised him in secret under constant Vought supervision. Butcher reunited with Becca in Season 2, only to watch her die for real during a battle with Stormfront (Aya Cash), Homelander's ex-girlfriend.
While details about the sit-down photo are unknown as of writing, it is possible that Butcher matches Homelander in power during the moment. Courtesy of Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Butcher will have access to a drug in Season 3 that gives him Homelander's abilities for 24 hours with each dose. Urban has discussed how the use of this drug will be an internal conflict for the character, saying, "That's the dilemma: does Butcher become a superhero or a super villain?"
Aside from the teased superpowered battle between Butcher and Homelander, The Boys Season 3 will introduce fans to new Supes Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and the Crimson Countess (Laurie Holden), along with other members of Payback, the series' version of Marvel's Avengers. Other newcomers include Miles Gaston Villanueva as Supersonic, Sean Patrick Flannery as Gunpowder and more, in addition to returning cast members like Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara and others.
The first two seasons of The Boys and its animated spinoff, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, are available now on Prime Video. The Boys Season 3 premieres on June 3.
