An expert witness disputes Johnny Depp's claims that Amber Heard severed his finger in 2015 as the high-profile legal battle wages on.
As reported by Deadline, Heard's lawyers called veteran orthopedic surgeon Dr. Richard Moore to the stand to provide evidence against Depp's story regarding his injuries reportedly caused by his ex-wife. Moore testified that the wound was "not consistent" with the description provided by Depp, elaborating that there was no evidence of any other injuries sustained. The actor has previously gone on record to state that his hand was sitting atop the edge of their household bar when it was struck by a large bottle of vodka thrown by Heard.
"If a bottle struck the nail, there certainly would have been an injury to the nail bed," said Moore, explaining that Depp's described injury sounds closer to a finger that was crushed by a door. This is not the first time Heard's legal team has disputed Depp's story regarding his finger. The Aquaman star's lawyers have previously stated that Depp hurt his finger by himself, pointing to a text sent by the actor wherein he states that he cut it off himself.
Heard previously testified that she had hit Depp but noted that the act was in self-defense. "There are many times I had to use my body to defend myself, and that included slapping wherever I could," Heard said. "If it meant I could get away, absolutely, or the difference between a sore face and a broken nose… I tried to defend myself when I could, but it was after years of not defending myself."
While the judge has yet to decide on an outcome to the case, Heard is largely losing in the court of public opinion. Various online petitions have started up in an attempt to have the actor removed from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will see her reprise her role as Mera. Similarly, many of Depp's fans are rallying for Disney to rehire the actor for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, a role Jack Sparrow actor claims he lost due to an op-ed piece written by Heard which labeled him as a "wife-beater."
There's currently no word on when the Depp/Heard legal battle will conclude.
