A Marvel fan from San Francisco is hopping his way into people's hearts with an impressive cosplay of Thor's little amphibious variant, Throg.
Creature creator Shelley Karrver attended the 2022 SiliCon with Adam Savage, a pop culture and technology convention, and shared photos of his human-sized Frog of Thunder cosplay. He wears a foam head of Throg's likeness, with an eyepatch on the right side and Thor's trademark winged helmet. The rest of his attire is an adult-sized Throg costume, including red foam gauntlets and a green muscle suit ,and wielding his mighty Frogjolnir hammer.
Debuting in Marvel's Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #1, Simon Walterson was a college football star who suffered a career-ending knee injury. After the death of his wife and their unborn child, Simon fell into a deep depression and sought after psychic mediums to contact his late wife. When Simon failed to pay a witch who was able to reconnect him with his family, the witch turned him into a frog.
Renamed Puddlegulp, he encountered Thor in Central Park after the God of Thunder was turned into a frog by Loki, and the two joined forces against the park's rats. After they parted ways, Puddlegulp found a piece of silver from Thor's Mjolnir and used it to turn into Throg, then went on to join the Pet Avengers, enlisted by the Inhumans' Lockjaw. It was with the Pet Avengers that Throg humiliated an Asgardian Warrior.
Throg made a Marvel Cinematic Universe cameo in Loki on Disney+ in the episode "Journey into Mystery". In the episode, Loki encounters four time variants of himself, and it is during this episode that Throg is seen inside a jar buried underground in the Void. Karrver, who has previously done cosplays of Marvel's Man-Spider and DC Comics' King Shark, referenced this moment in the Reddit post with the caption, "Glad to have made it out of the jar!!"
While Throg's next MCU appearance is unknown, Thor will be seen once again on the big screen this summer in Thor: Love and Thunder. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the God of Thunder travels the universe to find inner peace until he's called back into action to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). Along the way, he reunites with his former love Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who has now transformed into the Mighty Thor.
