DC Comics has created the most iconic sidekicks of all time. They arguably started the trend and have kept it up over the years. DC's heroes are often the most exemplary models of heroism, so it makes sense they frequently mentor the next generation — molding new heroes in their image and getting them ready for their future as superheroes.

Sidekicks are still a large part of the DC Universe, but there could always be more of them. Right now, sidekicks are mostly relegated to the Batman side of things, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other heroes out there who could train up sidekicks. There are plenty of qualified heroes who could make amazing mentors if only they had the chance.

Barbara Gordon has had one of the most varied superheroic careers out there. She learned the ropes from Batman, worked with some of the biggest names in the hero community, and retired her Batgirl mantle due to injury. That wasn't the end of her time as a hero, however, becoming Oracle and using her intelligence and computer skills to help any hero who needed it.

Having mentored Cassandra Cain when she first became Batgirl, Barbara Gordon is familiar with the mentor role. She has a lot of wisdom she could pass on to her new protégé, and with her old injuries limiting her time in the field, a sidekick could allow Barbara to replicate her days as handler of the Birds of Prey.

9 Kyle Rayner Would Make An Excellent Mentor To A New Green Lantern

After the Corps was destroyed, Kyle Rayner became Green Lantern and kept the fire alive. The only Green Lantern in the entire universe for a while, he not only kept innocents safe, but was also a clutch member of the JLA. Since then, Kyle has been one of the Corps' most important Lanterns, even gaining the power of Ion and the White Lantern.

Kyle would make an amazing partner to a new Green Lantern just learning the ropes. Kyle's experiences are unlike any of the other members of the Corps, his constructs have always been the best, and he has plenty of wisdom to impart.

Donna Troy was trained by the Amazons before her stint as Wonder Woman's sidekick. She helped found the Teen Titans and is one of the team's most important members. Donna served as Wonder Woman in the past and is respected by just about everyone in the superhero community.

Donna understands what it takes to be a young hero and knows what's needed to train one. She's been a hero for most of her life and mentoring a sidekick would finally bring her to the next level in the superhero community. It's time for Donna to take on a sidekick.

7 Cyborg's Growth As A Hero Would Make Him An Excellent Mentor

Cyborg has changed a lot over the years. Always one of the most level-headed members of the Teen Titans, he helped train plenty of the team's younger members, especially later in his career. Cyborg has always proven to connect well with everyone he works with and would be the ideal mentor/trainer for a young hero.

With the changing winds of DC continuity, Cyborg is in a strange place. Giving him a sidekick would give his character something valuable to do and give DC a reason for to put more focus on him. On top of that, watching Cyborg pushed to his limits and possibly losing his legendary cool while training his sidekick would be entertaining.

6 Tim Drake Is The Best Of His Generation And Has A Lot To Pass On

Tim Drake was the most well-balanced Robin whose blend of skills quickly put him in the running for best sidekick of all time. Drake is one of the best detectives in the DC Universe — having figured out Batman's identity on his own — and has led both Young Justice and the Teen Titans. Consistently proving he is up to any task, a sidekick would be perfect for Drake.

Tim Drake and his generation are at the perfect place in their lives to pass on the knowledge they've gained to younger heroes. If anyone can step up the plate, it's him. Drake was always the most mature and skilled hero of his crop of sidekicks and the skills he could teach a partner would be manifold.

5 Jay Garrick Is Great With Young Heroes

Jay Garrick has been the Flash for a long time. While he's no longer the fastest man alive, having been outpaced by his heroic descendants, he's still one of the best heroes around. In recent years, Garrick and the other surviving members of the JSA have taken to mentoring young heroes, a task Jay excels at. Garrick taking on a full-time sidekick would make a lot of sense.

Jay has already proven how good he is at teaching the next generation and any hero lucky enough to be Jay's primary partner would develop their skills exponentially. Jay Garrick helped train Bart Allen back in the day, which took a lot of patience, making any other sidekick a snap to deal with.

4 Zatanna Has Successfully Trained Several Young Heroes

Zatanna is the foremost magic wielding hero. She isn't always the most powerful sorcerer on the field, but she has the knowledge to make up for it and has recently risen to the next level leading Justice League Dark. Having trained young magic users in the past, Zatanna is familiar with the process and would be a fantastic mentor for a sidekick.

Zatanna has a higher profile position than ever in the magic community, equivalent to the one her father held when he trained her. She's proven good with sidekicks before, so giving her another one is a great idea.

Supergirl moved out of her cousin's shadow but is still considered at a lower level than other heroes. This is unfair to her, as she's one of the universe's most heroic saviors. Supergirl's been idling in the superhero community for a long time and getting a sidekick would definitely bring her into the upper echelons.

Supergirl has a lot of knowledge to pass on and works well with pretty much anyone. She's powerful enough to keep a sidekick safe if they bite off more than they can chew and has the wisdom and experience necessary to be a great teacher.

Wally West is widely considered the best Flash, exciting fans by has recently taking up the mantle again. Truly the fastest man alive, West's return as the Flash is a big deal and carries with it some responsibilities. Among those, one of the most important is training the next generation of speedsters, something Wally has already proven himself capable of doing.

Wally receiving another sidekick is as easy as his children taking up their heroic mantles again. Wally was a sidekick himself and has dealt with them before in the form of his kids, making him a great mentor for any young hero.

Nightwing is the cream of the crop. As the original Robin, he set the bar for every sidekick who came after and has become an elder statesman of the superhero world. Everyone respects and trusts him, making him one of the most important ex-sidekicks around. Forging his own path, Nightwing has already proven he's a great mentor.

Nightwing has helped train several young heroes and was instrumental in shaping Damian Wayne into the hero he is today. Nightwing is a great teacher and having another sidekick would let him stretch those muscles and pass on the additional knowledge he's learned.
