Kraven the Hunter BTS Video Highlights a Dangerous Car Chase

A behind-the-scenes video from the set of Kraven the Hunter offers a new look at the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff's car chase set-piece.

The footage appears to show star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (or his stunt double) clinging to the side of a black van as it races down a busy London street. Taylor-Johnson plays Sergei Kravinoff -- better known as Kraven the Hunter -- a supernaturally-enhanced big game hunter and long-time enemy of Spider-Man. If the character in the video is indeed Kraven, the hunter's unique abilities would explain how he maintains his grip on the van, despite it moving at high speed and veering wildly across the road.

Fans previously caught a glimpse of Kraven the Hunter's high-speed car chase courtesy of two earlier unofficial clips. The action in this footage matched what is seen in the new video, albeit captured from different, more street-level angles. Collectively, the trio of clips appears to confirm Taylor-Johnson's earlier comments about having "a bunch of stunt training to do for this movie."

The footage follows a flurry of casting announcements in recent months. Russell Crowe was one of the first actors to join Kraven the Hunter's supporting cast, signing on in February. Crowe's role in the film is still yet to be disclosed, although some fans theorize he will play a member of Kraven's family.

More recently, White Lotus star Fred Hechinger entered the fold as Chameleon. A master of disguise, Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon is Kraven's half-brother and one of Spider-Man's oldest foes. Kodi Smit-McPhee, who portrayed Nightcrawler in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, was reportedly the first choice to play Chameleon. These plans were reportedly scuttled by scheduling issues between Smit-McPhee and the production, paving the way for Hechinger to claim the role.

Then there's West Side Story's Ariana DeBose, who has been tapped to play voodoo priestess Calypso. Little is known about how Calypso will factor into Kraven the Hunter's plot, although in the comics, she was Kraven's on/off flame and often joined forces with him to take on Spider-Man. Without Remorse star Jodie Turner-Smith was supposedly the front runner for the role in July 2021, however, she was never officially announced as a part of Kraven the Hunter's cast.

Kraven the Hunter stalks into cinemas on Jan. 13, 2023.
