Picard’s Patrick Stewart Describes ‘Wonderful’ TNG Reunion

Picard star Patrick Stewart opened up about his experience reuniting with the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

As reported by Deadline, Stewart spoke to the return of his previous crewmates, joking that Picard's directors were annoyed with the actors due to their constant shenanigans on set. "I’m with Gates [McFadden] and Marina [Sirtis] and Jonathan [Frakes] and Brent [Spiner] and LeVar [Burton] and Michael [Dorn], and those days have been wonderful," said Stewart. "I think it’s hard for the directors because we fool about so much! And it was always like that – I mean, you’ve probably heard that famous thing that I said it during our first season when somebody said, 'Patrick, we’ve got to have some fun,' because I was complaining about the disruptions and the noise, and I said ‘We are not here to have fun!'"

Paramount Pictures recently unveiled the first teaser for Picard's third and final season, confirming that nearly every main cast member of The Next Generation was reprising their role. The brief trailer included new footage of the titular captain accompanied by voiceovers from each of the returning actors. It's currently unknown how the TNG cast will be incorporated into Season 3's overarching narrative.

While many fans are excited for Picard Season 3, Stewart teased that the conclusion may leave many wanting more from the sci-fi series. "Followers of Picard will find that we get to the very end of Season 3, and the resolution is unexpected and questionable," explained Stewart. "I'm thrilled about that because it leaves a question mark hanging over his head."

Despite the emphasis on the show's mysterious resolution, Stewart quickly elaborated that it doesn't necessarily mean that Captain Picard will return for another spinoff in the future. "Now, I'm not saying in three years' time or 10 years' time, there will be another series and I'll be back again tending in my grapes in the vineyard," Stewart continued. "But I've had some fallings out with some of our people, because they look on this as a closure that is coming up, and I don't."

Picard Season 2 is now available to stream on Paramount+ with new episodes dropping every Thursday. The show's third and final season does not yet have a solid release date.
