John Stewart comes face-to-face with a comic book legend in DC's Green Lantern #12 -- even if he doesn't realize it.
DC has provided CBR with an official preview for Green Lantern #12, which is set to hit comic shops on Tuesday, April 12 -- having been pushed back from its original solicited release date of March 1. The issue comes from writer Geoffrey Thorne, artists Tom Raney and Marco Santucci, colorist Mike Atiyeh and letterer Rob Leigh. It features a main cover by Bernard Chang and Alex Sinclair, as well as a variant cover by Alan Quah.
The preview itself sees John Stewart/Green Lantern meet The Source, the limitless energy from which all life in the universe emerged. The concept of The Source was created by legendary writer/artist Jack Kirby, first appearing in New Gods #1, cover-dated March 1971. Fittingly, for its Green Lantern appearance, The Source manifests itself as a suit-wearing man who bears an uncanny resemblance to the late, great Kirby.
Of course, The Source has manifested in other forms in the past. "Sometimes I'm a wall and a flaming hand," the entity says, referencing its 1971 debut. "Once, I was a turtle." However, the inspiration for this particular manifestation is undeniable. The scene in question even features a fair amount of Kirby Krackle, an artistic device innovated by The King himself.

- As the dust settles after the battle with the Anti-Guardian, John Stewart, Jo Mullein, and the rest of the Corps pick up the pieces and adjust to their new status quo. The day might be saved, but there's still plenty of work to be done. Everything you know about Green Lanterns is about to change!
This certainly isn't the first time the current Green Lantern title has referenced Kirby's New Gods, with December's issue #9 having brought the character of Esak back to the DC Universe following an extended absence.
Written by Geoffrey Thorne, illustrated by Tom Raney and Marco Santucci, colored by Mike Atiyeh and lettered by Rob Leigh, Green Lantern #12 goes on sale April 12 from DC.
